“Wicked” Crochet flower
I have had a really “wicked” weekend! It was my birthday on Saturday and to celebrate, I went with my husband and other family members to see the musical production Wicked. It was really fantastic. I love musicals and this one was especially good as it had so many layers and made you think about how we really see things. Are things really as they appear to be. I LOVED it!
But before I got there I had to decide what to wear. I wardrobe is totally boring at the moment and mostly consists of black (to help hide all those lumps and bumps). How drab
My sister suggested I add something to my black outfit to give it a little lift. She saw this lovely crochet flower necklace from twoandsix

and suggested I make one. So that’s what I did. I didn’t have much wool to choose from and what I have is not high quality so I just had to make do. I only had the drive there, 40 minutes, to get it done. I chose green to match the “wicked” green and with a little fiddling and undoing and redoing, this is how it turned out.
Without a pattern to follow and only a printed picture from twoandsix, I think it turned out pretty good. I would definitely use better quality wool so that the stitches are more visible and not hidden in the fuzz of acrylic wool. And to stop the petals curling up like the original from twoandsix, I think I should have used a looser stitch. I always do things tightly. I must get better at that!
I finished the last stitch as we pulled up to the theatre and didn’t have time to do the “necklace” part of it. So mine was a brooch. I’ve spent some time this morning writing up the pattern (are they called patterns for crocheting?) and here it is.

_______________
I used a size 8 (4 mm) hook with 4 ply wool. This is the first time I’ve written a pattern so hopefully it makes sense. Please give it a go and let me know if it works out. The stitches are Australian so you may need to convert them to US etc if that is what you are used to.
Good luck and have a “wicked” crocheting time

Well done. What a clever idea, although I would get car sick if I did it on the way to a performance but good idea nevertheless.
Wow that’s awesome Amy! I can’t wait to try this one. So cute.
Thanks. And lucky for me there was no car sickness.
Kelly, make sure you send through a finished pic and let me know if the pattern actually works! lol
Hey Amy,
I love all your work! You’re so clever! I’m glad you enjoyed the show, it’s a good one isn’t it? Hope ur well and congratulations!!
Thanks Patrice. I loved the show! Would go again ………… if money wasn’t an issue
Thank you so much for the flower pattern, i’t just what I was looking for.
You’re welcome Mae
Wow beautiful! U should make a video for this… got a little confused..
Thanks Yuna. Crochet patterns can be confusing and this is the first one I have written so I was kind of expecting a few hiccups. I’m not really set up for making video tutorials but I may need to give it a go.
At which point in the pattern did you get confused? I would love to know so I can adjust it if I need to.
Thanks, Amy
I agree. A video tutorial would just be fantastic.
