Simple Mother’s Day gift

20Apr10

I needed to come up with an idea for a Mother’s Day present for the girls in my youth group to make.  It needed to be simple and inexpensive.  This is what I came up with.

Doesn’t it look impressive!  I found the idea at “Love, Paper, Scissors. Bug Art Design”.  Obviously I couldn’t afford the price tag so I hunted around to find some bargains.

This picture frame is A4 size and only cost me $3.  It came with glass but to make the butterflies ‘pop’ I just took it out.  I cut half a sheet of A4 Basic Grey cardstock and stuck it straight to the picture that came in the frame making sure to cover  the original picture to leave a white border around the grey.  I added a piece of Baja Breeze and then a simple poem printed on standard copy paper.

To make this into a work of art, I punched 4 butterflies from three different designer papers and arranged them up the side decoratively.  I only stuck the central body section of the butterfly so that I could fold the wings up and make them look like they are fluttering.

All up it has cost about $3.60 to make.  A price tag that I can deal with quite easily.

Why not give it a go yourself.  You probably have an old picture frame lying around that would be perfect for this project.  Have fun creating 🙂
