Great Friend – Mini Catalogue

15Jul09

The new mini catalogue is a great friend (lol) but in the new Spring Mini Catalogue there is a beautiful stamp set called Great Friend.  I promised I’d put some samples up using mini catalogue items and here is the first one.

For this card I have used Not Quite Navy, Old Olive and Baja Breeze with Whisper White.  The panel of Designer Paper is from the Bella Blue Range from Stampin’ Up!  I’ve also used my cuttlebug to emboss the birds and swirls pattern onto the Baja Breeze. The sentiment, leaf and butterfly stamps are all from the Great Friend stamp set.

The butterfly was a little tricky to get standing out as though it is flying, and I could have done it many different ways, but chose to use a piece of linen thread to tie around the center and through a hole in the whisper white.  I then popped a dimensional under the center of the right wing to keep it firmly in place without flattening it.

So that there was a print on the top of the wings and the bottom I stamped two butterflies and stuck them together with Snail adhesive.  I also made the top one overlap a bit on each side leaving the bottom butterfly with more “give” in the middle which made the  whole butterfly stay open better.  It’s hard to explain and I hope that it makes a little sense to you.  All I know is that it looks great and that it shouldn’t even go flat!  The poor thing will get pretty tired as it will always be flying.

For the inside I stamped the butterfly along with leaf image in the bottom left corner.  I used a sponge dauber to add a bit of shadow and to make the leaves look fuller.

I hope you like this stamp set as much as I do because I think I’ll be using it a lot!
