Birds and Swirls
I was very pleased this year with my Mother’s Day gift from my husband and children. I did have to hint a lot (I eventually had to tell him straight up to go and get it) but he did get it and I love it. He got me a Cuttlebug. I love the way it just adds so much more dimension to a card and how simple it is to add that extra wow. I thought I’d show you all how easy it is to take a simple card and make it into something special (well I think it’s special anyway). In each photo I’ve added a little extra detail. So here goes.
This is my basic card using the Always stamp set and Old Olive, Close to Cocoa, Blush Blossom and Pretty in Pink.
Next I used my scallop edge punch along the bottom edge of the Old Olive card then I sponged Close to Cocoa around all the edge of all the pieces of card including a strip of Blush Blossom that I added under the scallop edge to give it more definition.
My favourite thing at the moment is paper piercing so of course I used it here in the corners of the Whisper White around the bird and mounted it using dimensionals then I added a simple Pretty in Pink ribbon above it.
But the finishing touch is embossing the Old Olive background with the Cuttlebug embossing folders. This one above is Swiss Dots but my favourite for this card is the Birds and Swirls embossing folder used below. It matches perfectly with the bird image and the swirls just give it that extra softness that it needs.
I wish that Stampin’ Up had their version of the Cuttlebug available here in Australia as they have many embossing folders that co-ordinate with stamp sets and dies for cutting images that also match stamp sets. But alas, they don’t but the Cuttlebug does the same and the range of accessories that go with it are amazing. I can see now that this is going to put a strain on the budget!
You can buy a Cuttlebug from many places but I found a great price through my friend Annette at The Little Memory Shop. She is selling them for $127 and the embossing folders are only $9.50. These prices are below the RRP as are most of her scrapbooking and card making supplies and she has online shopping available too. Check out her website if you want more details.
